Barn Raising

Visiting family over 4th of July weekend in California's wine country, I snapped these photos that remind me of just how much I love life away from the city.

Beautiful, reminds me of my trip to Wisconsin 3 years ago. I love American architecture especially how most homes have a big open porch with verandah.

@Bridget - Oh yes! The homes with the big wrap-around porches? A dream home to be sure.

@Deborah Kay - Thank you! I loved that barn.

@Mrs. Rabe - No kidding! I'm not sure they can call it a barn. Looks nicer than most house.

@Kay Ellen - Me too! Can you tell. :)

@Jess - I thought about you and your Napa Valley trip that never happened as I took these photos! Now I'm waiting for some gorgeous Oregon barns! Get going girl. ;-)

Great shots, especially that last one. Are you familiar with artist/author Eric Sloane? His book Age of Barns is a series of fascinating sketches of early American barns.

@Leigh - I'm not familiar with him but clearly need to do a Google and library search now! :) Thank you for sharing.
